I'm getting old.

Guess who turned 18 yesterday! Yep, that's right, Yours Truly. And my day was great, for the most part.

I woke up at 4:45am, tried to make myself as pretty as possible, drove to Starbucks where my best friends were waiting for me (they are AMAZING), sipped a Pumpkin Spice Latte and chatted until 7:00am, rushed to school and arrived just in time for the bell, went through first, second, and third period with ease, but then failed a quiz in Government, begrudgingly attended rehearsal from 3:00 to 5:00pm, and finally went to Gianna's Italian Kitchen for dinner with my family.

Yes, it was a fun day. But the real celebration will be on Friday night—not a huge deal, just a nice little birthday/Halloween get-together with a few good friends. The plan is to watch scary movies into the wee hours of the night while stuffing our faces with pumpkin cake. It will be lovely.

But, anyway, I cannot believe I'm already 18... I mean, I could legally get married if I wanted to. And even though that in itself it pretty awesome (just kidding, no boyfriend here!), I'm really going to miss being 17. It's just a good age, is it not? It's the age of innocence and self-discovery, falling in love and having fun. And, okay, I didn't fall in love, but it was still a BLAST, and I learned quite a bit.

Maybe this year will be just as great... I'm hoping for the best!

A noun or a name?

Fun fact about me: I have an obsession with baby names. I love researching the meanings of random names, and my friends like to tease me about my favorites—I find that unique names are the ones that fascinate me the most (probably because I was given the most common name on the planet).

I've been in love with the name Isabelle for a while (which means "God's promise"), but my new favorite is something a little more unique...

What do you think about Winter Rose?

Rose would be her middle name, so she would just go by Winter. It's not your typical name, but I figure if Summer and Autumn can be names, why can't Winter? And as for the middle name, I've always loved the simple yet classic Rose. However, my friends seem to think that when put together, it sounds more like a noun than a name. Personally, I don't see the problem with that, especially when the name paints a picture like this in my mind.

Delicate, lovely, romantic, and somewhat wistful. I like it.

Happily wasting time.

I just spent the last three hours talking to my parents about everything that has been on my mind for the past couple of weeks... UNC, Footloose, future plans, my brothers, the list goes on. Three hours that I could have been working on my government project or writing my college application essays or even catching up on some sleep.

Yet it was so worth it. Truth be told, I love wasting time. But then again, I don't consider the time spent with my family wasted at all. On the contrary, I believe those moments to be the most valuable. Even when you have a million and one things to do, it's okay to let it all go every once in a while. Do something fun or spontaneous or relaxing. Let time slip through your fingers.

Take a long bubble bath. Watch your favorite movie. Dive into a deep conversation with someone you love. I gained more wisdom and knowledge out of that one three-hour discussion with my parents than I could ever gain from twenty government projects. And I loved every minute of it.

I wish all nights were like this one.
